About the Role
As a Mobile Technician II, you will perform intermediate service and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, or power equipment. You will work outside the shop, servicing equipment at customer sites or rail yards using a mobile service truck.
Responsibilities
- Perform intermediate-level preventive maintenance and repairs, including tire replacements, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on tractor or trailer equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair ABS systems.
- Properly operate the mobile service truck and manage truck inventory.
- Assist with the onboarding and mentorship of tractor technician trainees.
- Follow all safety requirements while onsite and at customer locations.
- Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
- Properly document damage to company equipment to estimate repair costs.
- Demonstrate proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid-level repairs on chassis, frames, and other equipment.
- Patch holes in trailer or container side panels and roofs.
- Perform annual AA trailer and FHWA brake inspections under direct supervision.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs.
- 2 years of experience in semi-tractor or semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent.
- Demonstrate required skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences.
- Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.
- Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.
- Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
- Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed.
Skills
- ABS system troubleshooting and repair
- Proficient use of a cutting torch and welding equipment
- Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively
- Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
- Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
