About the Role
As a founding engineer on the mid-market squad, you will build foundational systems for restaurant groups with complex needs, including multiple locations, layered permissions, and rollup visibility. You will define data structures for reporting and design a scalable permissions and authorization system. This greenfield opportunity allows you to shape systems used by over 1.5 million restaurant workers.
Responsibilities
- Design and build data structures and pipelines for rollup reporting, owning the work from schema design through beta delivery.
- Architect and lead early development on a new permissions and authorization system, mapping the migration path and sequencing the transition.
- Partner with product counterparts to sequence, estimate, and prioritize foundational workstreams, surfacing tradeoffs and risks.
- Communicate architectural decisions and status clearly to the team, data team, and leadership.
- Work alongside AI agents for spec-driven development, code generation, debugging, and daily workflow.
- Raise the technical bar of the squad through code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on guidance.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of experience building production software, with a focus on data modeling or permissions and authorization.
- Experience owning systems end-to-end, from technical design through delivery, support, and iteration.
- Proven ability to turn ambiguous, complex problems into clear, maintainable solutions.
- Comfort in large, evolving codebases, with the ability to improve them incrementally.
- Strong technical judgment balancing speed, quality, performance, and long-term maintainability against a timeline.
- Clear communication and ability to work effectively across engineering, product, and data partners.
- Experience mentoring developers or leading technical discussions.
