About the Role
The Gund Company has an immediate opening for a full-time Composite Operator III to join our team. We’re a growing company with strong opportunities for advancement, offering challenging work and support for ongoing career development. We’re looking for a mechanically inclined, motivated team member who’s ready to contribute to our operation and grow with us.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Production Fulfillment Process steps related to the fabrication of parts according to work order and customer requirements.
- Ensure machinery is set up, works properly, and conforms with company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards.
- Operate multiple types of fabrication equipment.
- Set-up and operate CNC machining centers in multiple cells that include mills, lathes, presses, routers etc.
- Set up and operate various types of machine tools and perform progressive machining operations for parts, tools and machines with close to exacting tolerances.
- Perform advanced setup operations.
- Adjust and check out programming.
- Set up machines for and instruct other operators.
- Work with team leads and management personnel to lead teams and projects of varying scope and work cells.
- Place and secure work pieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches.
- Load, operate and manufacture a variety of parts using CNC machining centers to make custom parts according to customer orders and instructions.
- Follow written instructions from internal and external customers and interpret basic to intermediate blueprint specifications.
- Perform work independently with minimal defects.
- Basic recognition of tooling and procedures within established tolerances.
- Complete work order paperwork.
- Check parts for conformance to customer specifications.
- Maintain count and perform packaging duties as required.
- Participate in cross training activities to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department.
- Perform routine daily machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Provide guidance, feedback and positive behavior modeling The Gund Company culture of care.
- Determine if tools are undamaged and in safe condition for use.
- Make suggestions to improve production and order processing efficiency.
- Assist with training other team members.
- Follow safety rules and quality standards.
- Model ethical and moral behavior consistent with the values and ideals supported by The Gund Company.
Requirements
- Requires a broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures.
- Communicate with supervisor on work order priority.
- Open to change due to emergency orders or fabrication of parts.
- Basic to intermediate math skills and/or aptitudes.
- Ability to use basic measuring instruments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to work overtime as needed.
- Typically requires 5+ years of combined formal training and experience, or equivalent.
- A High School Diploma or GED with prior hands on, vocational or job-related course work/training, or any similar combination of education and experience is required.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- May be required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- Regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include ability to adjust focus.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- May involve repetitive tasks and manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.
