About the Role
The Research department at Dimensional is integral to the firm's day-to-day functioning and long-term strategy, producing high-quality, thought-leadership research on investments and financial markets. This role supports and enhances investment strategies, improves understanding of financial markets, and aids client education through academically grounded research.
Responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous empirical research related to portfolio structure and implementation, including historical simulations, regression, attribution, and characteristics analysis.
- Perform econometric tests to evaluate the impact of different portfolio construction and implementation approaches on expected performance, costs, and diversification.
- Collaborate with investment and sales teams to develop investment solutions meeting client needs, goals, and preferences.
- Share research findings through white papers and presentations at Dimensional seminars and conferences.
- Participate in and contribute to internal research seminars.
- Discuss Dimensional’s investment philosophy, process, and strategies with clients and prospects.
- Review the latest advances in academic work on asset pricing to support investment strategies and for client education.
- Independently complete research projects from idea generation to publication or implementation.
Requirements
- PhD in a discipline such as finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, or similar disciplines.
- 0-3 years of relevant industry experience for Researcher role (3-7 years for Senior Researcher).
- Excellent knowledge in quantitative finance.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Extensive experience doing empirical research with large datasets.
- Strong background in econometrics and statistics.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Proficiency in database and query language (T-SQL) is highly considered.
- Expertise in fixed-income research is strongly preferred.
- Experience in portfolio optimization, derivative pricing, and machine learning is highly advantageous.
- Excellent ability to communicate financial and economic concepts, in both oral and written form, to various audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail, imagination, and creativity.
