About the Role
You are joining at a defining moment of one of Australia's most significant technology programs, building and operating a dedicated cloud for the national security community. Architectural decisions made now will shape national security operations for the next decade. As a Systems Engineer, you will redefine how AWS designs, builds, and operates cloud regions, enabling new infrastructure and services. You will engineer advanced DNS solutions for Route 53, a critical internet service with 100% availability, working on complex distributed systems that serve millions.
Responsibilities
- Own the full engineering lifecycle of Route 53's DNS infrastructure within the program.
- Design and implement DNS solutions leveraging Route 53's advanced capabilities, including latency-based routing, Private DNS configurations, Geo DNS routing, and failover architectures.
- Write production-quality code for automation frameworks, monitoring systems, and tooling.
- Integrate Route 53 with the broader AWS ecosystem and collaborate across teams.
- Participate in architectural reviews, challenge assumptions, and propose solutions.
- Build and refine runbooks, lead incident response, and conduct root-cause analyses.
- Mentor teammates and share knowledge to foster a culture of engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Must be an Australian citizen.
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
- Must be able to successfully complete an Organisational Suitability Assessment.
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP(S), DNS, and TCP/IP.
- Experience with automation or working with scripting languages like Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell, or equivalent.
- Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting.
- Experience troubleshooting skills at all levels, from application to network to host.
- Operations experience working with CI/CD Pipelines and deployment systems like Terraform, Github Actions, Jenkins, or others.
