About the Role

Wizcorp is seeking a Game Engine Programmer to join an exciting project for next-generation consoles. Your experience will determine your specific role within our team.

Responsibilities

  • Review code written by other engineers to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Develop systems and utilities for our custom engine.
  • Integrate rendering engines or implement new engine features.
  • Perform architectural changes to the codebase.
  • Work on save data management, job systems, memory management, or development support features.
  • Estimate and complete tasks by deadlines.
  • Write clear, maintainable code that passes reviews by senior engineers.
  • Report impediments to the project lead.
  • Test and document solutions for other developers to review and learn from.
  • Implement and maintain software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Take responsibility for broad areas of the codebase or large, complex features.
  • Take ownership of mission-critical areas of the codebase.
  • Coordinate with members outside the engineering team to deliver features by deadlines.
  • Determine the feasibility of large features and propose solutions.
  • Provide solid programming expertise to realize large feature and architectural proposals.
  • Conduct code review analysis to anticipate problems in design and implementation, leveraging all relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Several years of practical experience with custom engines and experience releasing console games.
  • Proficiency in C++ and comfort with delving into engine architecture for improvements.
  • Ability to design, test, and debug your own code without assistance from other engineers.
  • Ability to break down large features into engineering tasks and collaborate with others to complete them.
  • Ability to decipher and understand complex systems.
  • Ability to mentor engineers on engine development best practices.
  • Ability to develop systems with a focus on optimization and performance.
  • Interest in working on various parts of a game engine (rendering, animation, audio, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate confidently with all members of the company.
  • University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • For candidates residing in Japan: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience and 2+ years of custom engine development experience.
  • For candidates residing outside Japan: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience and 5+ years of custom engine development experience.
  • Solid software engineering capabilities (excellent code quality, knowledge of various coding patterns, etc.).
  • Extensive C++ experience and proficiency in C# (WPF).
  • Familiarity with source code control systems (Git, SVN, Perforce, etc.).
  • Japanese language proficiency (conversational or above - JLPT N3 or higher) for candidates residing in Japan.
  • English language proficiency (able to read, write, and discuss technical matters).

  • Experience with other game engines like Unreal, Unity, or proprietary engines.
  • 3+ years of experience in the game industry.
  • Development experience on at least one released game title.

Salary/Compensations

  • GE1: Monthly salary 400,000 - 475,000 JPY
  • GE2: Monthly salary 450,000 - 580,000 JPY
  • GE3: Monthly salary 550,000 - 640,000 JPY
  • Annual salary 4,800,000 - 7,200,000 JPY
