About the Role
This role reports to the Spiritual Care Manager / Director of Mission Integration and works as part of the Pastoral Care team. You will embody and bring to life the mission and values of Adventist HealthCare, offering care to meet patients' and families' spiritual needs. You will also provide spiritual support to staff and volunteers, fostering the hospital's ecumenical and interfaith activities. This full-time role requires participation in a rotating roster and on-call duties for after-hours, weekend, and end-of-life pastoral support.
Responsibilities
- Embody and bring to life the mission and values of Adventist HealthCare.
- Collaborate with the broader team to be present for patients and their families, offering care to meet their spiritual needs.
- Document interactions with patients and families.
- Engage in the department's communication and documentation processes.
- Provide spiritual support to staff and volunteers as needed.
- Foster and sustain the hospital's ecumenical and interfaith activities.
- Participate in a shared on-call roster for after-hours, weekend and end-of-life pastoral support.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in Christian ministry and pastoral care.
- Strong personal Christian faith and active involvement in a local church.
- Experience providing compassionate, person-centred spiritual care, particularly for people living with serious illness.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships across diverse cultures, beliefs and faith traditions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Emotional resilience, self-awareness and the capacity to support people through suffering, death and dying.
- Strong professional judgement, including maintaining confidentiality, appropriate boundaries and accurate clinical documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing spiritual formation, professional development and reflective practice.
- A current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check, or the ability to obtain and maintain these clearances.
- Availability to work 5 days per week on a rotating Monday to Sunday roster (8:00am to 5:00pm).
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a range of pre-employment checks and assessments.
