About the Role
Huckleberry Youth Programs (HYP) is a critical provider of essential safety net services for high-needs youth and their families in San Francisco and Marin County. For over 50 years, HYP has developed and maintained prevention programs that promote the health and leadership of youth, and, as a result, divert youth from violence, crime and gang involvement, as well as other harmful behaviors, including running away, drug/alcohol abuse, risky sexual activities, and involvement in the juvenile justice system. The agency employs 75 staff members, and operates on a $9 million annual budget.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of youth in the shelter and during community outings and appointments.
- Conduct intake assessments with youth and their families.
- Provide crisis counseling for various client groups and via phone.
- Handle phone coverage, responding to crisis, business, informational, and referral calls.
- Assist with case management, including referrals and collaboration with community partners and the House therapist.
- Facilitate in-house groups and recreational activities.
- Supervise clients in daily activities, including chores, educational time, recreation, and mealtimes.
- Supervise evening activities, including group time, homework, meals, phone time, and bedtime preparation.
- Supervise morning activities, including wake-up, school departure, and meal preparation.
- Supervise clients during awake overnight shifts, including regular bed checks and potential intakes.
- Enforce boundary setting, consequences, and house rules and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all CCL regulations, including medication distribution, meal preparation, and chemical storage.
- Maintain knowledge of safety and emergency procedures.
- Perform household maintenance, including maintaining a clean and safe facility and organizing workspaces.
- Complete the overnight checklist during awake overnight shifts.
- Coordinate arrangements for repairs and maintenance as instructed by the Program Director.
- Participate in daily client reviews, weekly client reviews, weekly staff meetings, weekly supervision with Manager, and other agency meetings.
- Provide emergency coverage when necessary.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Program Director.
Requirements
- Minimum one year of experience working with adolescents in a residential setting and providing crisis services to youth and their families is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and awake overnights is required.
- Ability to speak Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese at a professional capacity is strongly preferred.
- Valid first aid certificate.
- Valid CA driver’s license & clear DMV record.
- Fully vaccinated for COVID 19.
- Two years of driving experience.
- Must pass DOJ/FBI background check.
- Candidates with backgrounds including items on the non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible for exemption.
