About the Role
Strategic Mission Critical (SMC) is seeking a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to lead and execute electrical design for mission-critical projects, including data centers and hyperscale facilities. This role involves conceptualization, design, specification, and coordination across multiple disciplines, with opportunities to contribute to internal standards and quality control.
Responsibilities
- Direct and execute electrical design for mission critical buildings and campuses.
- Design campus-level medium voltage distribution and highly redundant power systems.
- Design on-site generation and UPS backup systems.
- Design typical building systems including small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
- Coordinate with internal and external disciplines for electrical power connections.
- Coordinate monitoring system interfaces for electrical equipment with controls and telecommunications engineers.
- Define key performance criteria of power monitoring systems (EPMS), including specifications, points lists, and network hierarchies.
- Review client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices.
- Understand and apply local and national construction codes and project specifications.
- Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents.
- Use Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams.
- Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
- Lead other engineers, designers, and modelers, coordinating multiple teams for simultaneous project delivery.
- Mentor and train other engineers, designers, and modelers to develop electrical design knowledge.
- Maintain excellent organizational skills and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Requirements
- 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred; 2-year degrees and EET degrees with work experience will be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design.
- Proficiency using Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
- Experience in electrical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings preferred, with mission critical design experience being a strong plus.
- Experience performing and reviewing power studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash is strongly preferred.
- Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration.
- Experience reviewing submittals and shop drawings.
- Experience with field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
- Experience leading electrical design teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
- Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
