About the Role

The Community Development Coordinator is the first point of contact for student nutrition programs, working diligently with schools to ensure smooth operations and alongside local partnerships to develop and enhance relations with key stakeholders. This position provides support to Managers and leadership for day-to-day operations within VON's framework.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct formal program assessments and provide support to local student nutrition programs.
  • Coordinate annual grant application process.
  • Facilitate implementation of Ministry Program Guidelines and best practice standards.
  • Establish support strategies to assist programs not meeting key quality standards.
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of program training workshops for staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with securing additional funding/grant opportunities.
  • Foster good working relationships with key stakeholders and community partners.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and recognition.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of data and reports.
  • Ensure the provision of cost-effective client services and programs.
  • Assess clients for service needs, monitor service delivery, and contribute to program development, evaluation, and promotion.
  • Develop and implement program plans to meet department needs.
  • Manage volunteers and staff, leading orientation, training, and in-services within VON Quality Management standards.
  • Maintain regular engagement with clients and health partners to ensure programs meet community needs.
  • Function as a primary support contact between clients, health professionals, community support, and internal team members.
  • Track and report program plan and team effort results to supervisors and stakeholders.
  • Support financial accountability by maintaining program budgets.
  • Create and prepare financial and statistical trending reports for VON, funders, and program analysis.
  • Complete Disaster and Emergency Drills according to VON policy.
  • Plan and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Practice in accordance with VON Canada's quality and risk management framework and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Participate in health and safety training, including WHMIS, and apply knowledge in the workplace.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all workplace incidents in accordance with legislation and VON policies.
  • Promote the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.
  • Promote a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and VON Safety Management System.
  • Abide by all VON policies, work practices, and confidentiality regulations.
  • Work in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Ensure timely communication and follow-up with clients, community partners/professionals, and internal staff.
  • Perform tasks requiring lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs, with fine hand movements for some tasks.

Requirements

  • Post Secondary Diploma in Health/Social Science discipline or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of related experience in community and health-based care.
  • 1-2 years of experience in program planning and evaluation is an asset.
  • Experience in volunteer administration is an asset.
  • Experience or understanding of the not-for-profit healthcare environment is an asset.
  • Experience with non-profit coordination/management.
  • Experience with fundraising and relationship building.
  • Proven organization skills to meet priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Public speaking and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with high confidentiality and discretion.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social and health care services network and community resources.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships within the community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize, multi-task, and handle competing deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Proficiency in Windows OS and MS Office Suite programs.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Must have a personal vehicle and possess a current driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • Ability to speak French is an asset in French Designated areas.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
