About the Role
Together for Youth Secure Detention is seeking to hire a full-time Science Teacher responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate lesson plan instructions to students, including 1:1 and small group provides input and helps facilitate social and emotional learning components of lesson plans.
- Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments.
- Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.
- Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.
- Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
- Plan and implement educational activities and events.
- Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning.
- Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning.
- Create and distribute educational content.
- Ensure classroom is clean and orderly.
- Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests.
- Observe, implement, monitor, and complete specific reports regarding student performance and behaviors in the classroom.
- Provide pre-crisis intervention and conflict resolution with students, including implementing and using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles and approved behavior modification techniques/strategies.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those of NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of practical teaching experience.
- Middle school & high school teaching experience required.
- Proficient knowledge and skills with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel if needed.
Skills
- Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with students, staff, and external partners.
- Outstanding organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Salary/Compensations
- $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 Salary/year
