About the Role
This role is open to an experienced Engineering Manager or an individual ready to transition into management. You will own infrastructure, developer productivity, and SRE/production support, building and growing a team from two to five or six members within three months. The role requires a hands-on approach initially, working directly with the team.
Responsibilities
- Own infrastructure, including cloud, third-party vendors, and surrounding systems.
- Build developer productivity tools and AI harnesses to support an AI-first engineering approach.
- Own SRE and production support, ensuring production discipline during high-growth phases.
- Build out the team, growing it from 2 to 5-6 members in three months.
- Stay hands-on, working directly with engineers and performing tasks alongside them.
- Grow each function (infrastructure, developer productivity, SRE/production support) into a larger team over time.
Requirements
- At least 2 years as a line manager directly managing teams of six to ten people, or clear readiness to grow into that role.
- Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP.
- Strong database troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with environments handling at least a million requests per minute.
- Ability to troubleshoot across databases, networking, compute, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of on-call practices, SLAs, SLOs, and SRE practices.
- Desire to stay hands-on and grow into a fuller managerial role.
- Ability to move fast and adapt to a high-growth environment.
- Experience building developer productivity tooling and AI harnesses for other engineering teams (Nice to Have).
- Experience building a team from a very small base (Nice to Have).
- Prior startup experience, especially at a company scaling through hypergrowth (Nice to Have).
- Own network to draw on for hiring (Nice to Have).
