About the Role
Supports the origination and structuring of corporate lending transactions with a focus on Large Financial Sponsors in the real estate sector. Coordinates with other products as an integral part of a larger coverage team that maintains strong client relationships. Includes providing lending expertise for a variety of sectors with a focus on transaction financing, establishing credit facilities to support trading products business and facilitating credit approvals in support of the broader product suite across Capital Markets. Cross sells Corporate Banking products to BMO Capital Market clients and manages the lending portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to growing and elevating the BMO and BMO Capital Market brand.
- Operates as a key member of the deal team to maximize sector penetration and returns.
- Institutes cross-selling initiatives to increase client ranking.
- Creates and presents pitch books for clients regarding financial solutions.
- Monitors clients, client industries, and regulatory agencies for potential changes.
- Initiates contact with partners for new client sales.
- Partners with deal teams and product specialists for accurate client information.
- Prepares credit documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Directly manages a diverse portfolio of loans to large Financial Sponsors.
- Reviews and monitors the performance of existing accounts and client relationships.
- Identifies opportunities to diversify client portfolios.
- Understands client needs and provides relevant ideas and opinions to generate recommendations.
- Collaborates with sector coverage partners to cover clients and prospects and to identify/deliver creative, timely solutions.
- Provides deal structuring expertise and negotiates transactions with clients.
- Prepares and oversees the delivery of creative and timely pitches.
- Obtains credit concurrence and coordinates pricing approval as a client advocate.
- Maintains key ongoing coverage contact with lending clients and sector managers.
- Builds positive client relations through a deep understanding of client needs and alignment of products/services.
- Identifies and leverages key decision makers and influencers in client/internal organizations.
- Interprets client strategy and anticipates needs to deliver solutions.
- Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service.
- Acts as a positive change agent to drive improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintains awareness of all firm products and services and facilitates continuous updates.
- Supports the execution of strategic initiatives.
- Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
- Works with specialists as needed to support successful deal completion.
- Uses financial analysis to proactively identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Generates updated financial models/analyses as business needs and industry requirements dictate.
- Analyzes and assesses industry compilations.
- Applies appropriate technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses.
- Completes due diligence and credit analysis on new and existing client relationships.
- Breaks down strategic problems, analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
- Understands the complexity of transactions and related risks.
- Balances the Bank's risk appetite with client needs in making recommendations/proposals.
- Provides feedback on and supports continuous improvement opportunities.
- Identifies opportunities to find more cost-effective ways to impact the bottom line and drive profitability.
- Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis, and/or streamlined reporting.
- Reviews and guides the work of Analysts and Associates.
- Considers risk, internal controls, and compliance in day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.
- Provides specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
- Works independently and handles non-routine situations.
- Takes measured risks while protecting the bank by applying the Risk Management Framework.
Requirements
- Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience.
- Direct experience with acquisition financing for Financial Sponsors with a focus on take-private transactions.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in investment banking, negotiating and structuring complex financial transactions.
- Includes some experience in a corporate lending environment developing business.
- Good knowledge of the organizational lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.
- Displays advanced deal execution and/or project management skills.
- Ability to manage more than one client / major initiative.
- Ability to create and deliver professional presentations.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.
- Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
