About the Role
This role involves facilitating groups for children aged 4-18, supporting their mental health and development within a research-based program. You will work alongside an experienced co-facilitator and utilize provided materials to create a supportive environment for children and their families.
Responsibilities
- Participate in weekly program briefing sessions with the facilitation team.
- Share meals with families to promote connection and communication.
- Prepare weekly children's group sessions focused on themes.
- Coordinate responsibilities with a co-facilitator for each session.
- Perform assigned weekly tasks such as family meet & greet, coat duty, food pick-up, serving, clean-up, and end-of-night watch.
- Co-facilitate interactive family activities.
- Support mothers' and children's participation in family interactive sessions.
- Co-facilitate weekly children's group sessions.
- Write case notes for children after group sessions.
- Participate in debriefing sessions with the facilitation team.
- Write discharge reports.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures.
- Represent the agency positively and maintain professional conduct.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum 1-year experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds who have experienced violence, trauma, and transitions from home to shelter.
- Knowledge of family violence and its impact on child development, caregivers, and family dynamics.
- Clear understanding and ability to work from a trauma-informed approach.
- Ability to creatively support children in group settings to process past experiences of abuse, practice emotion regulation, and develop safety planning skills.
- Understanding of trauma-informed behavioral management for externalizing behaviors.
- Understanding of trauma-informed and creative means of supporting children with internalizing behaviors.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in facilitating groups for children across various developmental levels.
- Understand and maintain client confidentiality.
- Understanding of child welfare legislation and duty to report protocols.
- Ability to work in a distracting, multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with children, families, and the program team.
- Ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team.
- Sound knowledge of anti-oppressive practices and ability to implement them.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Reflective worker dedicated to a team briefing model.
- Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Credential verifications and references are required.
- Ability to manage crisis situations following agency policies, child welfare, and health and safety standards.
- Mental flexibility to facilitate a group program with multiple components and adapt to client and team needs.
