About the Role
Vanilla is seeking a senior Product Manager to own the integrations surface end-to-end. This role requires someone who can write precise specifications and influence partner product and engineering leads. It is a senior individual contributor role with minimal direction, focused on ensuring customer workflows are successful through seamless integration.
Responsibilities
- Own the integrations roadmap and its sequencing.
- Define requirements and specification quality for every integration.
- Manage the technical relationship with partner product and engineering teams.
- Define the internal definition of "done" for an integration, focusing on customer workflow success.
- Develop reusable integration patterns and platform primitives.
- Translate business context and customer workflows into detailed specifications.
- Write acceptance criteria tied to end-user use cases.
- Identify and address edge cases, conflicting writes, and other issues early.
- Validate assumptions with real data and customer environments.
- Conduct structured spec reviews with engineering and remain engaged through build.
- Own mid-build change decisions, assessing tradeoffs and communicating impacts.
- Serve as the product-side counterpart to partner teams, negotiating technical approaches.
- Present credible alternatives and detailed technical explanations to partners.
- Influence partners to adapt their approach when beneficial.
- Escalate and negotiate with commercial awareness.
- Maintain awareness of partner roadmaps, deprecation timelines, and reliability.
- Set direction for integrations and defend with evidence.
- Prioritize across competing demands and communicate decisions clearly.
- Communicate crisply to executives, engineering, GTM, support, and external partners.
- Define and manage success metrics for integrations.
- Raise the bar for requirements and technical discovery within the product team.
Requirements
- 6+ years in product management.
- At least 3 years owning integrations, APIs, platform, or partner-facing products.
- Demonstrable track record of shipping non-trivial third-party integrations.
- Strong technical depth, including API documentation, endpoint testing, data models, and sync architecture.
- Written specification skills that engineers can rely on.
- Direct experience negotiating technical approaches with external partners or vendors.
- Comfort with ambiguity in discovery and rigor in commit phases.
- Strong customer-workflow instinct.
