About the Role
Under direct supervision, performs duties in the preparation and service of food at a Port Authority Cafeteria, following established procedures and methods. This position is responsible for food preparation and service at the assigned facility or other locations as directed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve food, ensuring proper quantity, quality, appearance, and methods.
- Prepare fruits and vegetables, salads, sandwiches, hot meats, vegetables, desserts, and hot & cold beverages.
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables.
- Maintain food temperatures and chemical levels according to standards.
- Perform sales transactions accurately and efficiently, manage cash drawer, and ensure compliance with service and inventory control procedures.
- Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions.
- Store food and supplies following proper wrapping, dating, food safety, and rotation procedures.
- Estimate and list needed food items.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and delivering supplies and products.
- Replenish condiments, coffee, other beverages, and general supplies.
- Set up tables prior to serving time with proper settings.
- Take customer orders and prepare items requiring short preparation.
- Complete orders from steam tables and serve customers at multiple stations.
- Ensure orders are picked up promptly and serviced efficiently.
- Serve customers in an efficient and friendly manner.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
- Report needed maintenance or repairs of equipment.
- Assist in record keeping and reporting.
- Remove and dispose of waste, trash, and garbage.
- Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administration, and managers.
- Resolve customer concerns and report relevant information to supervision.
- Perform job safely while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in preparation and service of food, including cooking in an industrial-type cafeteria operation.
- Ability to stand continuously and work in hot and humid conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment.
- All qualified candidates will participate in an oral exam assessing situational judgment, problem sensitivity, flexibility, decision making, customer service, interpersonal skills, and oral communication.
- The interview will include a brief physical component to demonstrate the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
