About the Role
The Site Superintendent plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily construction operations to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This position is responsible for coordinating field activities, supervising internal crews and subcontractors, and maintaining strict adherence to project schedules, specifications, and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight to self-performing crews and their supervisors.
- Manage and supervise subcontractor teams within assigned work areas.
- Uphold and enforce all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with project drawings, specifications, regulatory standards, and company procedures.
- Continuously monitor the quality of work performed on-site.
- Collaborate with project leadership to develop, refine, and execute construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocations.
- Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues or obstacles impacting construction progress.
- Maintain accurate records of daily construction activities, progress updates, site conditions, and changes.
- Provide regular reports to project leadership and stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs and support budget management.
Requirements
- Minimum secondary school diploma; degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
- Completion of relevant certifications, such as First Aid/CPR, Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS), and other industry-specific certifications.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a civil construction supervisory role, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Experience in structural steel erection.
- Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- In-depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations.
- Familiarity with tunneling, trackwork, earthworks, and utility relocation is an asset.
- Proficient in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
