About the Role
Ajaia is hiring a Design Lead to run discovery and design on client engagements and on Ajaia's own product suite. This is a hands-on role where you will conduct research and design yourself, ensuring high standards for all Ajaia products.
Responsibilities
- Run discovery on client engagements by interviewing users, observing their work, and identifying gaps between stated needs and actual behavior.
- Conduct user research for Ajaia's own products with the same rigor as client work.
- Synthesize findings into user needs, supported by evidence, distinct from initial requests.
- Design solutions including user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes for engineer implementation.
- Incorporate human checkpoints into workflows during the design phase.
- Test designs with users before development begins.
- Advocate for design decisions based on evidence, even when they challenge stakeholder expectations.
- Establish and maintain design standards across Ajaia's product suite.
- Utilize AI tools for prototyping and design, understanding when to leverage AI-native paths and when manual intervention is necessary.
- Prepare design handoffs for engineers and provide support during the build phase to ensure design intent is maintained.
- Conduct discovery through interviews, usability testing, and behavioral data analysis.
- Rapidly progress from synthesis to working prototypes.
- Design human checkpoints into workflows proactively.
- Facilitate discussions and guide stakeholders when evidence suggests a direction different from their initial expectations.
- Demonstrate AI fluency by using AI tools daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and by discerning quality output.
- Collaborate closely with engineers throughout the development process.
- Provide a public portfolio or case studies for review.
- Gain experience designing AI-native workflows, including the placement of human checkpoints.
- Leverage consulting, agency, or professional services experience with multiple clients.
- Demonstrate comfort with lightweight front-end implementation.
