About the Role
We are seeking a Design Engineer to help shape and ship Libra’s AI workspace for legal professionals. This role involves transforming complex ideas into high-quality user experiences, working across design and engineering from concept to production code. You will operate at the intersection of design, engineering, and applied AI, defining new ways for legal professionals to interact with intelligent systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship product experiences from early concepts through to polished production interfaces
- Work directly in the front-end codebase through pull requests, code reviews, testing, and release
- Partner with Product Design and Product Engineering early to shape elegant, feasible solutions
- Build functional prototypes that make complex ideas tangible and help the team test assumptions quickly
- Define interaction patterns for AI agents, legal documents, citations, generated content, and multi-step workflows
- Use AI coding and prototyping tools to accelerate exploration and implementation
- Translate design intent into reusable, responsive, and accessible components and product patterns
- Build accessibility into the product from the start, applying WCAG standards
- Help keep Figma, shared components, and the production experience aligned
- Use customer feedback, research, analytics, and session replays to identify and improve critical product experiences
- Raise the quality bar across typography, spacing, motion, microcopy, loading states, empty states, and edge cases
- Operate with autonomy in a fast-moving environment where many AI interaction patterns are still being invented
Requirements
- Strong experience designing and building sophisticated digital products
- A true 50/50 design engineer, equally credible in product design and front-end implementation
- An exceptional eye for visual design, interaction quality, and detail
- Strong front-end fundamentals, including TypeScript, React, HTML, and CSS
- Fluency in Figma and confidence working in GitHub and production codebases
- Experience taking features from exploration and prototyping through to release and iteration
- Strong product judgment and the ability to simplify complex, information-dense workflows
- Experience using AI tools as a meaningful part of your design and development process
- A strong understanding of responsive design, reusable components, scalable UI architecture, and WCAG accessibility standards
- Strong cross-functional instincts and the ability to collaborate with designers, engineers, product managers, and domain experts
- High ownership, clear communication, and genuine comfort with ambiguity
- Experience designing AI-native products, copilots, agents, or generative interfaces
- Experience with enterprise software, professional tools, or document-heavy workflows
- Experience in legal technology, research products, or knowledge-management systems
- Experience building or scaling a design system and component library
- Familiarity with component tooling such as Storybook
