About the Role
As a Field Systems Engineer, you will be the first line of technical response for construction robots in the field. You will deploy, commission, and diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, and software/controls. This role involves hands-on problem-solving, root cause analysis, and collaborating with design and manufacturing engineering to improve future systems. It is a generalist role requiring a broad engineering background and the ability to work independently under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, set up, and commission robotic systems in the field, configuring and validating each one to spec.
- Serve as the first line of technical response for field issues, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, or integration faults.
- Own root-cause analysis for field failures, collaborating with engineering to identify and address systemic problems.
- Develop and maintain field operating and maintenance procedures, checklists, and technical documentation.
- Partner with design and manufacturing engineering to implement product and process improvements based on field lessons.
- Lead the field rollout of new systems, acting as the technical bridge between engineering and operators.
- Maintain field-ready tooling, spare parts, and test equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 3+ years in a field engineering, field service, or systems engineering role supporting complex hardware, ideally robotic or electromechanical systems.
- General engineering background spanning mechanical, electrical, and basic software or controls troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues independently in the field, under real operating conditions and time pressure.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Willing to travel and spend multi-week stretches on-site supporting live deployments in outdoor and austere environments.
