About the Role
TAR develops, builds, and operates islanded solar and storage campuses that deliver firm power to AI data centers. As VP of Software, you will own all software outside of robotics, including the core platform, data, cloud infrastructure, and internal/customer-facing tooling. You will scale the software organization, set the architecture, and partner with the autonomy team on interfaces. This leadership role requires 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years leading software organizations, and is based in our San Francisco engineering office.
Responsibilities
- Own the software strategy and technical roadmap for TAR's core platform, data, and business-critical systems.
- Build and lead the software engineering organization, hiring and developing talent.
- Set system architecture across platform, data, cloud infrastructure, and tooling, ensuring security, reliability, and scalability.
- Drive the end-to-end software development lifecycle for all non-robotics systems.
- Partner with the autonomy team on interfaces between platforms and robotics systems.
- Serve as the senior software voice on the leadership team, influencing investment, roadmap, and technology strategy.
- Represent software to customers, partners, and investors.
- Establish engineering standards, security practices, and reliability processes.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- 5+ years in a leadership role (Director, Head of, or VP) building and running a software organization.
- Direct, hands-on experience managing a software engineering team, including hiring, structuring, and developing talent.
- Demonstrated ownership of platform, data, or infrastructure software for an operationally intensive business.
- Deep expertise in platform architecture, data systems, or cloud infrastructure.
- Track record of building and scaling a software organization from zero to one.
- Strong communication skills, comfortable representing software and platform decisions to executive leadership, customers, and investors.
- Experience building software for energy, utilities, or other industrial infrastructure operators (Nice to have).
- Experience partnering with hardware or robotics teams on data integration (Nice to have).
- Background at a high-growth, venture-backed infrastructure or industrial technology company (Nice to have).
