About the Role
We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist to be one of our earliest hires and lead data science at Bonfire. This senior role involves owning complex analytical problems, setting standards for data analysis, and influencing company decisions. You will collaborate directly with customers and founders, and contribute to hiring and mentoring as the team expands. The role requires someone intelligent, resourceful, meticulous with data, adept with AI tools, and comfortable tackling undefined challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute statistical analyses, predictive models, and data science workflows in Python and SQL to address complex, ambiguous questions.
- Build and enhance Databricks pipelines and reusable data assets for customer deliverables and products, managing large-scale datasets.
- Utilize AI tools as a primary method for data analysis and deliverable creation, and influence the analytical engine for Bonfire's AI-powered products.
- Establish technical direction and quality standards for data science, identify trends across customer engagements to develop new analytical products, and contribute to Bonfire's strategic roadmap.
- Manage project scope from discovery to delivery, and compile findings into clear, customer-ready reports and presentations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a data science or advanced analytics role.
- Strong SQL skills, including complex queries (joins, aggregations, window functions, CTEs).
- Proficiency in Python for modeling, hypothesis testing, and predictive analytics.
- Experience building or maintaining large-scale data pipelines; Databricks or Spark experience is a plus.
- Daily use of AI tools for efficiency and effectiveness, with a drive to explore their capabilities.
- A rigorous approach to data validation and error prevention.
- Excellent communication skills with genuine customer empathy, capable of presenting complex findings to both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience with healthcare data such as medical or prescription claims, or provider databases is a plus.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided.
