About the Role

Broadcast Engineers are the technical professionals at the heart of New York Public Radio, operating studio equipment alongside reporters and producers for live broadcasts, podcasts, performances, and videos. These positions will run the live control board for signature weekend shows and assist with other production needs within the Programming Department.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the board during local broadcasts on weekend live shows, fundraisers, and breaking news events.
  • Support the on‑air hosts at all times.
  • Record live interviews with both in studio and remote guests.
  • Use digital audio work tools to produce and mix stories for air.
  • Update news content for breaking news.
  • Communicate with Programming, News and Broadcast Technology colleagues throughout the weekends.
  • Provide disaster recovery support.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in live audio production, preferably live radio production.
  • Familiarity with the sound of New York Public Radio or public radio generally.
  • Familiarity with the Zetta On‑Air Delivery system is helpful.
  • Fluency in audio editing, knowledge of live on‑air board protocols and other systems for broadcast/digital delivery of audio.
  • Experience using ISDN, AoIP or phone hybrids.
  • Ability to work within a highly collaborative team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good sense of the New York Public Radio sound.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Background in live audio production.
  • Excellent people skills for interfacing with content producers.
