About the Role
The Head Start Assistant Teacher will support the Teacher in creating and implementing age-appropriate activities based on the Montessori curriculum, ensuring children are school-ready and fostering their holistic development.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Teacher in planning and executing age and developmentally appropriate activities reflecting the Montessori curriculum.
- Maintain written documentation and reports to meet compliance standards of CCNS, ACS, DOH, CACFP, and other relevant agencies.
- Facilitate parent involvement in all program aspects and promote positive growth and professional development.
- Adhere to policies and procedures established by CCNS, ACS, DOH, DOE, and CACFP.
- Comply with procedural norms and standards of attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality relevant to HIPPA.
- Ensure a learning environment based on the Montessori approach that helps children develop physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and creatively.
- Complete written observations, progress reports, outcomes reporting, CROWD, and other documents relevant to tracking children’s progress.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/families via open communications, training, and other developmental activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 30 college credits required.
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or 60 credits including 24 credits in Education preferred; or BA or Bachelors degree with 24 credits in education preferred.
- CDA preferred.
- 2 years of teaching experience in a preschool classroom preferred.
- Must commit to complete CDC training program within the first year of hire if CDA or 24 credits in Education or Early Childhood Education not obtained.
- Must commit to enroll in the Agency’s Montessori training program within the first year of hire and complete the training as required if not already Montessori trained.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
