About the Role

Join a unique division within the DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION that maintains the safety and compliance of Arizona's transportation network. This role supports law enforcement efforts at our state borders, offering opportunities from customer support to senior management.

Responsibilities

• Focuses on public safety by protecting life, property, and state transportation infrastructure.
• Provides safe and efficient movement of commercial traffic through Arizona.
• Enforces all state and federal laws and regulations related to commercial vehicle enforcement and regulatory compliance.
• Completes work assignments and training in a timely manner.
• Makes arrests when necessary.
• Testifies in court when required.
• Prepares clear and concise written reports.
• Exercises judgment in determining the use of force.
• Promotes compliance with all state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
• Screens commercial driver/vehicle credentials.
• Weighs commercial vehicles.
• Performs enhanced vehicle identity inspections.
• Ensures registration compliance.
• Conducts commercial vehicle safety inspections.
• Performs traffic stops on commercial vehicles.
• Enforces all pertinent laws, rules, and regulations.
• Issues applicable permits.
• Routes over-dimensional loads.
• Collects appropriate fees and taxes.
• Takes appropriate enforcement action as authorized by state and federal motor vehicle and operator laws, rules, and regulations.
• Inspects vehicles, dealer, and salvage yard operations for compliance with State title and registration requirements.

Requirements

• Background check required.
• In and out-of-state travel is required.
• Must have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
• Must have completed basic and advanced training comparable to the Arizona basic course.
• Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority certifications required.
• Weapons certified in accordance with AZPOST standards required.
• Must obtain CVSA certification within 6 months of hire.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Individuals who have served honorably as a peace officer in Arizona and their certification has lapsed, or served in another State may be eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing.
• Physical Ability Test (PAT) is required for all Waiver Testing.
• Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
• Employees are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
• An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
