About the Role
Relief Food Service Specialists are responsible for large scale meal preparation for a 38-bed community residence, ensuring all foods meet dietary needs and comply with health and safety regulations. The role involves creating a healing environment that respects diverse perspectives and experiences through safe, respectful communication.
Responsibilities
- Replace full-time Food Service Specialists on an as-needed basis.
- Perform a variety of food preparation duties.
- Ensure all foods are prepared to meet dietary needs of residents and are in accordance with all health and safety regulations.
- Strive to create a healing environment that respects the perspectives and experiences of individuals, families, staff, and communities.
- Practice safe, respectful communication.
- Respect individuals’ boundaries and differences.
- Listen and respond to resident’s requests in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Ensure resident needs are met while providing a positive dining experience.
- Handle food, dishes and utensils according to agency standards and health and safety regulations.
- Responsible for proper waste disposal and maintenance of waste receptacles.
- Responsible for the proper recycling of all recyclable goods.
- Responsible for dishwashing/cleaning and sanitizing of pots, pans, trays, and all other dishware in the kitchen.
- Responsible for sweeping and mopping work areas.
- Follow all food safety protocols when preparing, serving, storing and disposing of food.
- Perform any other duties necessary for successful operation of the program.
Requirements
- At least one year experience in a restaurant or large volume food service program is required.
- Working knowledge of nutritional information and portion sizing; weights and measures, recipe following, etc.
- Significant amount of time spent standing.
- Ability to lift fifty pounds.
