About the Role

Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.

Responsibilities

• Administers and directly applies Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician.
• Evaluates, assesses, plans, directs, and treats all residents or patients referred for speech/language pathology services.
• Interprets test results in accordance with standard speech/language procedures.
• Re-evaluates patients as appropriate and implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary.
• Implements treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury.
• Participates in multidisciplinary consultations.
• Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities within the department.
• Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.
• May provide information related to departmental budget considerations for Speech Pathology needs.
• May assist in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment.
• Ensures all documentation and charts are complete.
• Participates in infection control, safety, and educational programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of a college/university accredited by the American Speech and Hearing Association with a degree in Speech Language Pathology.
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with patients, medical and house staff.
• Excellent assessment skills to make accurate prognosis of patient potential and guide the individual to achieve that potential.
• Proficient with MS Office and Epic/EMR software.
• Must hold or be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
• Successful candidates might be required to undergo a background verification with an external vendor.
