About the Role
ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and certified Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Senior Soils Laboratory Technician to join our Austin team. In this role, you'll collaborate and develop with experienced professionals to safely perform a variety of tasks in our concrete and soils laboratories.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific tasks of increased complexity associated with conducting laboratory testing on construction materials for various projects under the supervision of lab leadership.
- Assist in preparation for and demonstrations of testing procedures.
- Train and mentor other lab technicians.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests using various methodologies and testing equipment following industry standards and compliance.
- Assist with tasks to maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) initiatives.
- Maintain accreditation compliance with various organizations, including DOT, AMRL, CCRL, and AASHTO.
- Perform calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment following the manufacturer’s schedule and records.
- Notify supervisor of broken or missing equipment.
- Conduct routine laboratory tests for soils including Atterberg limits, gradation analyses, swell testing, moisture content testing, unconfined compressive strength testing, standard and modified proctor testing.
- Begin learning how to visually classify soils.
- Perform calculations and data reduction based on interpretations of test results.
- Document results accurately using laboratory software.
- Prepare reports and summaries.
- Complete additional administrative tasks as requested.
- Enhance professional skills.
- Participate in and advance in internal and external training programs and certification opportunities provided by ASTM or other organizations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of experience.
- Must have and be willing to maintain laboratory certifications for concrete, soils, or both depending on where work is performed.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
- Willing to continue to enhance knowledge of CMT laboratory equipment, testing methods, and ASTM laboratory standards, leading to certifications in soils, concrete, or both with NICET, WACEL, or other organizations.
- Strong data interpretation and documentation skills.
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Ability to work effectively with peers and supervisors.
- US Military ranks E-4/E-5 will qualify IF they also meet the education and certification requirements.
