About the Role
Mott MacDonald is seeking a motivated Communications System Design Lead to join their Rail Control Systems Team. This role involves leading the execution of communication systems engineering and integration for rail and transit projects, contributing to the growth of Canadian operations, and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead communication systems elements of project delivery, including interfacing with related teams and managing resources/budget.
- Manage the development of communication system designs, specifications, installation, and testing plans.
- Provide technical advisory to clients for system requirements and contract documents.
- Lead communication systems design for project bids, including conceptual design and budget development.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Systems Engineering processes in North America.
- Provide technical support to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Apply lessons learned and advise on corrective actions for ongoing projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key delivery partners and service providers.
- Engage with end clients as necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering or equivalent.
- 12 - 20 years’ design, specification, installation, or maintenance of communication systems.
- Significant experience in passenger rail and transit or major public infrastructure projects.
- Professional Engineer designation in ON or BC.
- Experience with management and coordination of multiple aspects of communications systems design in rail or complex infrastructure projects.
- Experience with subsystems including CCTV/Video Management Systems, Intrusion/Access Control, Telephony/Intercoms, Radio/DAS/Wi-Fi, Backbone Fibre Optic Infrastructure, Communication Networks, Passenger Information Systems, SCADA/DCS, Wayside safety and security systems, ITS, and INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirable.
- Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
- Able to hold competent technical and business discussions with clients and business partners.
- Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers, and construction project managers professionally.
- Knowledge of systems engineering and system integration management for major railway infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of system engineering lifecycles as defined in IEC/IEEE 15288 and experience with lifecycle implementation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and English fluency.
