About the Role
Provides clinical and clerical support to assure smooth daily department operations in assigned medical practice or practices. Assures that the patient and examination area is properly prepared.
Responsibilities
- Greets and escorts patient back from waiting room to clinical area, ensuring proper patient identification.
- Performs clinical intake activities and documents appropriate information.
- Transcribes and updates patient information, including demographic, medication history, social, and medical history.
- Provides clerical and secretarial work associated with patient care, including preparing patient charts and assisting with paperwork.
- Performs and stays current with EMR Orders Reconciliation process.
- Ensures the examination area is clean and stocked after each patient use and performs environmental rounds.
- Prepares the patient for the scheduled visit to maintain timely patient flow, including assisting patients into gowns and ensuring necessary materials are available.
- Conducts in-office testing as directed by the clinician and coordinates testing and outside ancillary services.
- Reviews instructions for upcoming procedures and tests.
- Collects, prepares, and processes specimens as directed by the clinician, logging results and reconciling in the patient's record.
- Contacts patients to provide requested follow-up, advise on test results, or relay clinician instructions.
- Maintains inventory and ensures proper upkeep, cleaning, and testing of medical equipment and supplies.
- Communicates and documents electronic messages effectively.
- Assists in the training of new staff.
- Demonstrates and maintains practice-based competencies for in-office clinical procedures.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Maintains and models the Organization’s values.
- Demonstrates regular, dependable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required in accordance with their scope of practice.
Requirements
- 1 year of MA experience OR certified as an MA or EMT OR 3 full years of relevant healthcare experience including patient care, vitals, blood, and rooming.
- High School diploma/GED
- 1-year Medical Assistant experience, or new graduate of Medical Assistant program, or Nursing Assistant training program, or EMT certification, or 3 years job related experience in a medical office.
- Basic medical knowledge and terminology.
- Data entry required.
- BLS Certification is required within 30 days.
- Ability to travel between practices as needed.
