About the Role
Works collaboratively with the health care team to provide direct patient care, maintain the Emergency Department environment, and perform various clerical duties under the supervision of Nurse Supervisors and RNs.
Responsibilities
- Obtains and enters pertinent registration information from patients and/or families into the computer system and prepares ER charts.
- Performs order entry, including entering orders, charges, and reprinting orders.
- Assumes responsibility for the admitting process in the absence of a registrar or clerk.
- Checks and restocks emergency department supplies, preparing orders for central stores.
- Competently performs ER tech skills such as vital signs, EKGs, bandaging, setting up oxygen, and finger-stick glucose tests.
- Enhances customer service and satisfaction during high-volume times.
- Performs phlebotomies as directed by the RN.
- Assists in preparing patient rooms before use.
- Facilitates communication by answering phones, responding to patient call lights, and acting as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Performs other patient care duties such as transporting patients, maintaining log books, Xeroxing charts, and other duties designated by the Supervisor.
- Maintains the general appearance of the Emergency Department by cleaning up after patients and cleaning stretchers and counters.
- Displays analytical and basic problem-solving skills, communicating issues to the manager as appropriate.
- Follows all time and attendance policies.
- Attends educational programs related to job responsibilities provided by the Hospital or external sources.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Previous medical background and/or EMS training preferred.
- BLS preferred.
