About the Role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) I is a key member of the nursing care team, assisting with direct and indirect patient care within their scope of practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This role supports patients and healthcare teams in an innovative, patient-focused culture dedicated to improving patient health and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Activity of Daily Living (ADL) care including oral care, bathing, showering, shaving, hair washing, incontinence care, toileting, changing bed linen, and maintaining a decluttered patient care area.
  • Understands available products for patient care and when to utilize them.
  • Performs safety and preventative care, including infection prevention, skin and pressure injury prevention, and fall prevention.
  • Ensures patient safety by setting and responding appropriately to patient safety alarms.
  • Maintains environmental safety and performs regulatory compliance.
  • Assists with patient mobility, including turning, offloading, ambulation, range of motion, and appropriate use of mobility assist devices and patient lift equipment.
  • Assists with nutrition by delivering, collecting, and documenting meal consumption, and setting up and assisting patients with meals, including feeding.
  • Performs patient data collection, including vital signs, EKG, bladder scan, transfer devices, and telemetry.
  • Documents patient information in EMR, including vital signs, height and weight, intake and output, essential care performed, and intentional rounding.
  • Performs direct patient monitoring, including acting as a Safety Attendant (SA) at bedside and utilizing video surveillance.
  • Performs delegated patient care interventions within scope of practice and validated competency, including phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection, blood glucose measurement, and telemetry.
  • Prepares patient rooms for admissions and discharges, updates whiteboards, and stocks unit supplies.
  • Provides care for patients with invasive lines and devices within NA scope of practice.
  • Transports patients on and off the unit.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Communicates effectively with the patient care team to ensure quality care delivery.
  • Performs unit-specific and patient population-specific interventions as delegated.
  • Communicates effectively with nursing and healthcare teams, reporting out-of-range data and patient changes to the RN.
  • Performs shift reports with oncoming staff.
  • Demonstrates initiative and understanding of job duties through communication and self-initiative.
  • Relates to and respects each patient individually, meeting their cognitive, physical, emotional needs, and personal preferences, cultural, and religious beliefs.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the healthcare and leadership team within the scope of practice.

Requirements
