About the Role
Join Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital as a full-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Latham, NY. Work alongside experienced Veterinary Technicians and emergency veterinarians while gaining hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced specialty and emergency animal hospital. This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant looking to continue growing their skills, expand their knowledge of emergency medicine, and build a strong foundation toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Responsibilities
- Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Provide nursing support and basic animal husbandry for hospitalized patients
- Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Perform nail trims and suture/staple removals as directed
- Support emergency clinicians with patient care, diagnostics, and treatments
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment
- Deliver compassionate care to patients and exceptional service to clients
- Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and veterinarians to provide high-quality emergency care
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary medicine
- Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a Veterinary Technician program preferred
- Understanding of animal restraint, patient handling, and safety protocols
- Knowledge of proper sanitation, hygiene, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth in veterinary medicine
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Salary/Compensations
- $20–$25/hour
- $3.50/hour overnight differential
- Double Pay on holidays
