About the Role

Join Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital as a full-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Latham, NY. Work alongside experienced Veterinary Technicians and emergency veterinarians while gaining hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced specialty and emergency animal hospital. This is a great opportunity for a Veterinary Assistant looking to continue growing their skills, expand their knowledge of emergency medicine, and build a strong foundation toward becoming a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

Responsibilities

Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures
Provide nursing support and basic animal husbandry for hospitalized patients
Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
Perform nail trims and suture/staple removals as directed
Support emergency clinicians with patient care, diagnostics, and treatments
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment
Deliver compassionate care to patients and exceptional service to clients
Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and veterinarians to provide high-quality emergency care

Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary medicine
Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a Veterinary Technician program preferred
Understanding of animal restraint, patient handling, and safety protocols
Knowledge of proper sanitation, hygiene, and aseptic techniques
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment
Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth in veterinary medicine
Fluent English speaking and reading skills required

Salary/Compensations

$20–$25/hour
$3.50/hour overnight differential
Double Pay on holidays
