About the Role

Responsibilities

• Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings.
• Operates light or heavy duty housekeeping and floor maintenance machines to strip, wax, and buff floors.
• Performs cleaning and disinfecting procedures by fogging rooms and washing floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures.
• Washes walls, ceilings, stairs, and overhead equipment; vacuums rugs, furniture, draperies.
• Cleans and dusts furniture; makes empty beds; distributes linen.
• Takes down, washes, and rehangs venetian blinds and screens; takes down and rehangs draperies and curtains; washes windows.
• Empties wastebaskets and picks up trash from designated areas, loading into a dump truck for transport to a compactor.
• Washes large trash cans, wastebaskets, blackboards, and doors.
• Cleans kitchens and dining areas.
• Performs custodial duties such as moving equipment/furniture, tightening hardware, cleaning elevator tracks, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow.
• Maintains cleanliness of work storage closets and equipment.
• Performs other similar duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Requires ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
• Stands, walks, bends, and reaches continuously.
• Handles heavy and medium-weight material, equipment, and supplies.
• Is normally exposed to refuse, dirt, dust, detergents, body wastes, and odors indoors and outdoors.
• Occasionally exposed to the possibility of contacts with infection and infectious diseases.
