About the Role

The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) mission is to provide for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and to maintain and enhance the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of our primary customers, City residents. The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management’s Citywide Concrete Unit supports the agency’s goal to enhance, rehabilitate, and maintain the City’s infrastructure by acting as the agency’s primary construction unit.

Responsibilities

• Laying brick and masonry on given structures
• Performing fireproofing, block arching, terra cotta cutting and setting
• Constructing brick masonry for sewers and manholes
• Laying cobblestone
• Setting granite curb
• Laying pavers
• Reading and following plans and specifications
• Keeping jobs and other records
• May supervise assigned personnel

Requirements

• Must be serving permanently in the title, or be reachable on the civil service list, Exam # 0155, or have filed and be reachable on Exam# 4020
• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bricklayer
• At least three years of experience as a Bricklayer and sufficient bricklayer apprentice experience or training in the bricklaying field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of the above experience or training.
