About the Role

These positions will play a critical role in installing and maintaining vertical elements, regulatory signage, and other traffic control devices that protect bike lanes, improve network connectivity, and advance the City’s goals for safer and more accessible cycling and micromobility options.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices such as traffic signs on streets and highways, stanchions and supports, citywide bus stops informational and regulatory signs, and pavement markings.
• Operate, maintain, and make minor adjustments to motor vehicles, pavement marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, snowplows and other field and shop equipment.
• Perform manual labor in the loading and unloading of trucks and the placement of traffic devices, rigs.
• Climb and work from ladders, tower trucks, and bucket trucks.
• Remove traffic encumbrances.
• Operate a motor vehicle.
• Ensure compliance with all agency safety rules and regulations.
• Use and wear all safety equipment and gear properly on work sites.

Requirements

• Two years of full-time satisfactory experience using hand and/or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain and/or install mechanical and/or electrical devices.
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as described above.
• Graduation from an approved four-year trade, technical or vocational high school with a mechanical or electrical major.
• At least one year of full-time satisfactory experience as described above plus sufficient training in the mechanical or electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience.
• Must pass a drug screening and medical.
• New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.

Skills

• The office draws on the expertise and talents of engineers, sign designers, planners, inspectors, IT experts, analysts and others to help the agency achieve Vision Zero and other city goals.
