About the Role
The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is seeking a part-time Community Coach for its Coney Island Jobs Plus Program. This role is vital for informing residents about available services, motivating them to participate, and helping them build skills to increase their incomes. The program aims to provide comprehensive employment services to residents in designated public housing developments.
Responsibilities
- Market the Jobs Plus program to residents through various methods including door-to-door, social media, and events.
- Conduct home visits, office visits, and phone contact as directed.
- Act as a liaison between residents and the Jobs Plus team, providing information and addressing challenges.
- Assist in hosting resident orientations and workshops.
- Collaborate with staff and partners on outreach strategies.
- Inform residents about employment, training, education, and economic development opportunities.
- Assist with surveys to understand community priorities and identify resident needs.
- Provide input on strategies to encourage work and community engagement.
- Serve as a mentor to residents, offering informal peer-to-peer coaching.
- Assist in planning and implementing internal and external events, job fairs, and programs.
- Market the Jobs Plus Earned Income Disallowance (JPEID) program and other incentives.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Complete required documentation and maintain organized filing systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be a NYCHA resident residing in Surfside Gardens, Coney Island Houses 1, or Coney Island Houses 1 (Site 4&5) developments in Brooklyn.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Well-respected within the local community.
- Working knowledge of the local community.
- Resourceful and committed to improving the community.
- Willing to build on existing relationships to engage neighbors.
- Sociable and able to engage others in conversation.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple instructions.
- In some cases, the ability to speak Spanish may be required.
