About the Role

The Division of Bridges within the New York City Department of Transportation is responsible for managing over 800 bridges and tunnels, ensuring public safety and mobility. Team members contribute to major project designs, construction oversight, maintenance, engineering reviews, and quality assurance on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Assign and coordinate activities of in-house crews for repairs to the city's elevated infrastructure.
• Review engineering plans in preparation for repair jobs.
• Prepare work tickets and lane closure applications.
• Draft U.S. Coast Guard notices of upcoming work.
• Coordinate with skilled trades to solve logistical problems and ensure safety standards.
• Monitor daily project progress and confirm material usage aligns with industry standards.
• Prepare project reports detailing material and personnel costs.
• Respond to emergencies and supervise work during evenings, nights, and weekends.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be serving permanently in the Associate Project Manager II title or be reachable on the open-competitive list.
• Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions, including nights and weekends.
• Possess a motor vehicle driver’s license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions (may be required for certain assignments and must be maintained).
• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work (planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting) on engineering, architectural, or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project valued at $1,000,000 or more.
• Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field (engineering, architecture, construction management, urban planning, business administration, public administration, etc.) AND one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work.
• OR Possess a four-year high school diploma or equivalent AND five years of relevant project management experience.
• OR Possess a four-year high school diploma or equivalent PLUS any combination of college education and/or experience equivalent to five years.
• One year of experience credit is given for specific educational achievements (e.g., 30 semester credits, Master's degree, Juris Doctor, Professional Engineer license).
• Experience primarily of a design nature is not acceptable.
• In addition to meeting Assignment Level I qualifications, candidates must have at least one additional year of supervisory experience or project management experience for a large/complex construction project.
• In addition to meeting Assignment Level I qualifications, candidates must have at least two additional years of supervisory experience or project management experience for a large/complex construction project.
