About the Role

The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is seeking two Community Assistants to support the Division of Shelter Intake. This division oversees the operations of intake and assessment sites for single adults, adult families, and families with children, ensuring vulnerable populations can access shelter 24/7.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain agency and regulatory standards for health and sanitation.
  • Perform routine tasks related to client services.
  • Clean restrooms, dorms, laundry rooms, common areas, outside perimeters, office space, kitchen, and cafeteria.
  • Remove and dispose of litter and garbage.
  • Distribute and replenish toiletries and exchange linen.
  • Load and unload deliveries, stock supplies, and maintain inventory records.
  • Transport household supplies, equipment, and client lockers.
  • Distribute client mail and remove/store client belongings.
  • Organize serving areas and participate in food service.
  • Provide client escort service.
  • Assist in monitoring client program activities and crowd control.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

  • Ability to understand and be understood in English.
