About the Role

Based in Japan, this role holds overall responsibility for the HR function, reporting functionally to the Regional Head of HR and hierarchically to the Country Head of Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Timely delivery of all cyclical HR activities in Japan, including performance management evaluations, talent reviews, promotion nominations, and pay reviews in collaboration with regional HRBPs and COEs.
  • Execution of intradepartmental staff transfers and seamless collaboration with the TA Team, including contract generation and onboarding activities.
  • Management of employee issues, including grievance handling.
  • Local rollout of Learning & Development, DIB initiatives, and other staff engagement initiatives.
  • Communication of key HR messages to the Japan leadership team and employees.
  • Provision of local HR services, including HR information system maintenance, payroll and benefits administration, regulatory and tax reporting, and regulatory and management reports.
  • Ensuring local human resources policies and procedures are up-to-date and adhere to local regulations.
  • Alignment of Japan benefits with market positioning and the APAC region, in collaboration with regional P&R.
  • Providing local input and on-the-ground support for regional change projects.
  • Responsibility for local HR-related service contracts with vendors and intragroup.
  • Leading all local HR-related Non-Financial Risk (NFR) activities.
  • Ensuring HR data quality for the country.
  • Responsibility for the HR budget and HR BCP in the country.
  • Maintaining close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and vendors.
  • Ensuring compliance with control standards according to local regulatory requirements and ING Group guidelines.
  • Supporting Communities of Expertise in developing new people solutions and improving existing processes.
  • Proactive engagement with regional colleagues.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in senior HR roles within international financial services organizations.
  • Knowledge of organization and management principles, HR functional areas, industrial relations, local labor laws, and market practices in Japan.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational excellence.
  • Good understanding of data analytics and ability to interpret data.
  • Experience within an international, matrix-led organization.
  • Ability to work with the business to execute HR strategy and initiatives.
  • Ability to operate independently as a control function.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and execute change in terms of work deliverables and culture.
  • Self-awareness and a leadership style with a strong focus on people development.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
