About the Role

Under the delegation and supervision of an RN, provides clinical support with basic nursing care and patient monitoring for the general welfare and safety of all patients.

Responsibilities

• Assists with basic patient care, including hygiene, feeding, and bed making, under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Measures and records patient intake and output.
• Takes and records vital signs, Sao2, blood pressure, and weight.
• Performs selected procedures such as specimen collections and urine testing.
• Applies simple dressings to areas of potential skin integrity impairment after assessment by licensed personnel.
• Maintains clean and orderly patient care areas and utility areas.
• Distributes water pitchers and sets up equipment for patient admissions.
• Orients patients to the unit and secures valuables.
• Responds promptly to call lights and provides necessary assistance.
• Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition, IV solution leakage, and other treatment/device issues.
• Assists with reinforcement of incentive spirometry after nursing instruction.
• Reapplies oxygen equipment if displaced from the patient, except for CPAP.
• Keeps the RN informed of work status and availability for additional assignments.
• Moves and lifts patients.
• Supports the multidisciplinary team with range of motion exercises.
• Provides patient escort assistance as needed.
• Performs the patient observer role when assigned.
• Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
• Demonstrates ability to adapt to unit-specific routines and patient care needs on all Med-Surg units and Rehab Unit.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing assistant program or equivalent (student nurse).
• Minimum of one year medical/surgical or equivalent experience preferred.
• Nurse Aide Certification or equivalent (student nurse) required.
• BLS certification required.

Experience Level

• Minimum of one year medical/surgical or equivalent experience preferred.

Education Level

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing assistant program or equivalent (student nurse).
