About the Role
HDR is seeking a Civil Engineer to join their Building Engineering Services Group. This role involves designing critical infrastructure, including data centers and commercial environments, and contributing to technological advancement, sustainability, and human experience. The Civil Engineer will work closely with a multi-disciplinary project team, providing site civil engineering expertise during the design and construction phases for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Design and plan production for general civil engineering tasks, including site layouts, grading, drainage, paving, and utilities.
- Perform quantity calculations.
- Prepare specifications and contract documents.
- Execute complex assignments using sound engineering judgment and techniques.
- Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures.
- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed site civil design packages.
- Complete civil design using Autodesk Civil 3D, including grading, drainage, roadway, and wet utilities.
- Coordinate civil design with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Assist project managers with daily project coordination.
- Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Coordinator as needed.
- Supervise junior staff as required.
- Attend job sites to support design and construction activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Previous experience in general civil engineering.
- Professional engineering license recognized by the relevant licensing board (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- A commitment to being an active participant in an employee-owned culture.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in municipal infrastructure design using Civil 3D.
- Familiarity with site civil and road design practices, including design standards and guides.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with utility modeling (gravity and pressure pipes) in Civil 3D.
- Experience with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario.
- Experience with feasibility studies.
