About the Role

Responsibilities

• Assist with orientation and training of new staff in program plans, data collection systems, and direct care.
• Provide assistance to Residential Clinical staff as needed.
• Maintain necessary program supplies, including pictograms and schedule books.
• Monitor supply closets and ensure equipment is maintained.
• Attend medical/health related appointments of residents.
• Organize, collate, and complete reports on documentation and data as requested.
• Review documentation for completeness and accuracy, following up with staff when necessary.
• Facilitate resident participation by implementing their individual program plan.
• Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r).
• Engage in necessary lifting, moving, and positioning tasks for residents.
• Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor, and range of motion skills.
• Promote and facilitate self-care and personal hygiene.
• Assist residents with bathing, toileting, dressing, and eating, including modeling appropriate behavior and using therapeutic equipment.
• Perform housekeeping tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and shopping.
• Foster receptive and expressive communication through various avenues, including sign language and pictograms.
• Accurately and consistently complete all required documentation using PrecisionCare software and written forms.
• Follow HIPAA confidentiality laws.
• Adhere to the Code of Ethics for DSPs.
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, case reviews, and in-service sessions.
• Implement fire, safety, and emergency procedures.
• Assist with fire drills.
• Maintain certifications in Medication Administration, SCIP-r, CPR, and First Aid.
• Administer medications to residents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy manuals.
• Ability to participate in various physical and recreation activities outside the residence.
• Possess a current and valid NYS driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
