About the Role

The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for supplier development in a manufacturing or service process, working with suppliers to continuously improve performance, implement process controls, and develop quality assurance plans.

Responsibilities

  • Select suitable suppliers based on quality, capability, pricing, delivery, environment, and social regulations against customer requirements.
  • Implement new supplier qualification through capability matching, risk assessment, self-assessment, onsite audits, and database management.
  • Provide value-added engineering proposals to customers and suppliers for optimization of manufacturing processes or products.
  • Implement Material (Component) Qualification, including PPAP (FAI, Material Certificates, Quality/Process Control Plan, FMEA, MSA, Process Parameter Sheet, RoHS compliance, Reliability Test, COC, etc.).
  • Track new qualified parts' quality performance during the pilot run phase and drive corrective actions.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for supplier quality hot issues and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with annual maintenance audits for existing suppliers.
  • Help suppliers use quality tools to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Handle ECO/ECN/SCR implementation, ensuring PPAP/FAI is required prior to production.
  • Understand a company's manufacturing process, applications, and process development to work with suppliers on improving quality components.
  • Perform quality audits on suppliers to ensure products and services meet ISO and regulatory standards.
  • Build strong relationships with purchasing engineers and the supplier system.
  • Provide cross-functional support to select, approve, and develop suppliers.
  • Ensure supplier selection, development, approval, and rejection align with SJM vendor guidelines.
  • Drive full assessment of supplier process control plans, measures, and activities.
  • Utilize statistical techniques and professional judgment for process improvement research.
  • Develop and guide the execution of process validations and tests, documenting results.
  • Guide supplier process capability studies.
  • Construct Design of Experiments to characterize supplier processes and/or set root causes.
  • Develop and implement procedures for new and/or improved supplier processes.
  • Provide engineering support to Receiving Inspection, including statistical research, measurement systems exploration, Gage R&R studies, and inspection procedures.
  • Participate in Material Review Board resolutions for supplier-provided parts and services.
  • Participate in supplier Quality System Improvement Plans.
  • Guide the Supplier Requests for Change process.
  • Perform supplier Quality System audits.
  • Perform corrective and preventive actions with suppliers.
  • Research non-conformances and supplier performance for key performance indicators.
  • Perform dock-to-stock monitoring and part selection activities.
  • Provide guidance to project teams for supplied component and supplier qualifications.
  • Guide teams in identifying risks/hazards related to new product designs, processes, suppliers, and applications.
  • Operate job-related equipment skillfully and safely.
  • Rate and track supplier performance and drive supplier continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain supplier management processes and tools.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor degree in a related field.
  • Typically requires 4 years of experience in engineering in the high technology electronics industry or related field.
  • Use of Electronic Assembly tools (color code, component, schematics) may be required.
  • Various PCB operations may be required.
  • Experience with Testing tools (oscilloscope, cable and harness testing, trouble shooting, component testing, logic analyzer) may be required.
  • Experience with Inspection tools (bare board, systems, components, cable and harness, microscope, measuring tools) may be required.
  • Experience with Mechanical & Electrical Tools (taps and dies, alignment tools, measuring tools) may be required.
  • Demonstrates advanced functional and technical skills and basic process skills.
