About the Role
Join a team responsible for ensuring compliance with IRS QI Agreement tax reporting requirements. This role involves directing and supervising reconciliation activities, reviewing reconciliations for accuracy and completeness, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. You will manage a team of 3 Tax Specialists, focusing on employee experience, staff development, and performance management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team by setting clear goals, fostering employee growth through coaching and mentoring, and managing performance through reviews and recognition.
- Establish and maintain reconciliation standards and procedures.
- Manage and verify income and tax reconciliations across daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles.
- Review team reconciliations, ensure compliance, and prepare reports for audits and reviews.
- Analyze processes to identify opportunities to improve client service, efficiency, and reduce risk.
- Implement automated improvements using MS Access (SQL, VBA, macros) and MS Excel tools (Power Query, Pivot Tables, VBA).
- Maintain and update desk operating procedure manuals.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Present reconciliation findings to senior leaders and auditors.
- Serve as liaison with the IRS.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in US tax regulations applicable to Qualified Intermediaries, including the QI Agreement and Sections 302, 305(c), 871(m) and 1446(a & f) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Complete understanding of US tax as it applies to security financing including institutional borrowing and lending accounts, third party settlements, derivatives, repos (understanding of entitlement system DIVSY) and understanding of ICI Impact.
- 3-5 years of people manager experience.
- 3+ years of experience with tax reconciliation processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including MS Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
- Completion of Canadian Securities Course (CSC).
- Familiarity with RBC Wealth Management Canada systems and applications (BTS, ClientSource, OnDemand, ServiceLink).
- Knowledge of FATCA and CRS reporting requirements.
- University degree or recognized diploma in finance, economics, or accounting, or equivalent professional experience.
- Bilingualism (English and French) required.
