About the Role

Upper Canada Child Care is recruiting Assistant Educator(s) to ensure operational and curriculum requirements are met in compliance with Ministry and organizational guidelines. The role involves delivering a developmentally appropriate, play-based program using specialized early childhood education skills and knowledge, supporting the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Responsibilities

Applies current legislative expectations to support a program consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
Participates in professional development opportunities, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.
Engages with children and provides a positive learning experience.
Provides a range of care including assisting with meals/snacks, toileting, diapering, and dressing.
Fosters engagement and ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children.
Completes program charts, daily logs, reports, and other administration tasks.
Uses Storypark for pedagogical documentation as a guide for program development.
Collaborates and communicates effectively with team members, school personnel, and outside agencies to support children's needs.
Provides guidance to students and volunteers as needed.
Identifies children needing additional support and guides parents through accessing resources.
Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.

Requirements

Must be available to work a split shift in a before and after school program.
Must be available to work a split-shift (morning and afternoon) in Before & After School programs or a full day (8-hour shift) Monday-Friday for Full-time Supply Position.
Must be available to work a minimum of 5 assigned shifts every month for Casual Supply status.
A recent Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation, are required.
Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid (training provided upon selection if required).
Basic knowledge of children's developmental needs and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge.
Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation is an asset.
Uses initiative; applies sound reason in solving problems and resolves conflict calmly and professionally.
Proven ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and establish appropriate relationships with families, coworkers, and other professionals.
Must have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in various settings, including outdoor public spaces.
Ability to use computer systems and programs, including Dayforce and Storypark.
Moderate level of physical effort is regularly required, including kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, and carrying.

Salary/Compensations

Assistant Educator $21.19 - $24.13/hour (includes General Operating Grant) plus Wage Enhancement Grant (up to $2.00/hr) and Split Shift Premium ($2.00/hr).
