About the Role

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking a Senior LAN Specialist to support its Information Technology Services (ITS) organization. This role will be instrumental in installing, coordinating, and evaluating LAN configurations, providing technical assistance, and instructing staff on network operating systems.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the installation of Local Area Network (LAN) configurations including Network interface, Workstation, and Windows NT server configuration.
• Coordinate, plan, document, and evaluate the installation, customization, testing, and implementation of cross-platform connectivity for HRA's Enterprise-wide LAN and other agency networks.
• Provide technical assistance to customer area staff regarding LAN hardware/software capabilities and limitations.
• Assist in developing technical recommendations for network strategic planning, consolidation, system conversions, and acquisition needs.
• Ensure compatibility of Microsoft Windows with complex multiple networks through software acquisitions and upgrades.
• Instruct or demonstrate to staff and customers the proper usage and/or installation of complex network operating systems or related program product software.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and 2 years of satisfactory full-time software experience in designing, programming, debugging, maintaining, implementing, and enhancing computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including 1 year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and 6 years of full-time satisfactory software experience as described above, including 1 year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
• Satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above.
• College education may be substituted for up to 2 years of required experience on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to 1 year of experience.
• A master's degree in computer science or a related computer field may be substituted for 1 year of required experience.
• All candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent, plus at least 1 year of satisfactory full-time software experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project.
• Experience must be explained in detail to qualify as Project Leader or Major Contributor.
• Experience in computer operations, technical support, quality assurance (QA), hardware installation, help desk, or as an end user will not be accepted.
• To be eligible for Assignment Level IV, individuals must have 1 year of satisfactory experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project in data administration, database management systems, operating systems, data communications systems, capacity planning, and/or on-line applications programming.
