About the Role

The HR Compliance Specialist at United Health Services (UHS) ensures HR practices meet healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and I-9 compliance. This role reduces risk, strengthens credentialing and licensure oversight, and provides practical training to leaders, translating complex regulations into clear, actionable guidance and promoting consistent standards.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and update HR compliance policies and procedures to align with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and applicable employment laws.
  • Conduct routine HR compliance audits (e.g., credentialing, licensure verification, personnel file integrity, and I-9 compliance) and document findings to strengthen audit readiness.
  • Monitor regulatory and compliance developments and translate changes into practical guidance, policy updates, and risk-mitigation actions for HR and operational teams.
  • Partner cross-functionally with HR, Legal, Risk, and operational stakeholders to advance enterprise compliance initiatives and reinforce consistent standards across entities.
  • Support internal and external audits and accreditation activities by coordinating documentation, preparing monitoring reports, and recommending corrective actions to maintain survey readiness.
  • Design and deliver compliance education for leaders and staff by developing clear training content and facilitating targeted sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Maintain accurate compliance logs, documentation, and reporting dashboards, analyzing trends to inform leadership decisions and continuous improvement priorities.
  • Contribute directly to organizational risk reduction by identifying compliance gaps early and driving timely remediation plans that support workforce integrity and operational continuity.
  • Apply professional judgment within defined parameters to prioritize audit findings, recommend corrective actions, and escalate higher-risk concerns appropriately.
  • Strengthen consistency across the employee lifecycle by reinforcing standardized practices for onboarding documentation, credentialing/licensure verification, and HR recordkeeping.
  • Influence readiness across multiple sites or entities by partnering with leaders to maintain “always ready” audit habits—not just event-based preparation.
  • Improve compliance efficiency and effectiveness by contributing to the design, testing, and implementation of process and system enhancements (e.g., HRIS workflows, documentation controls).
  • Build trust through clear, timely communication that helps leaders understand requirements, reduce risk, and sustain an ethical workplace culture.
  • Balance regulatory rigor with supportive education and practical guidance for managers and teams.
  • Maintain required professional credentials and qualifications and complete continuing education to sustain HR compliance expertise.
  • Complete required organizational compliance training and competency validations within established timelines to support audit readiness and professional accountability.
  • Support I-9 compliance and documentation retention practices by ensuring records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Assist with compliance-related investigations and incident response by documenting issues clearly, supporting fact-finding, and tracking corrective actions through completion.
  • Maintain current knowledge of healthcare accreditation and regulatory expectations that affect HR practices, supporting proactive readiness across assigned areas.
  • Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations.
  • As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risks.
  • Collaborate effectively across HR and operational teams to ensure compliance practices are understood, adopted, and sustained.
  • Communicate with clarity and professionalism to support a positive leader and employee experience while meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Embrace a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to streamline compliance workflows and reduce administrative burden without sacrificing quality.
  • Travel to affiliated entities as needed to support audits, education, and HR compliance readiness efforts.
  • Demonstrate UHS Values of Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, and Innovation in all daily work and interactions.
  • Execute responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to meet department and organizational needs.
