About the Role

The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment to minimize downtime and support site operations. This role diagnoses electrical and hydraulic issues, coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance, and may travel between compost sites as needed. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, works independently, and is flexible to work outdoors and on weekends when required.

Responsibilities

Adhere to Miller Waste Systems safety protocols and be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Maintain and repair site equipment to ensure minimal downtime.
Repair and service all equipment on site including loaders, excavators, skid steers, screening plants, grinders, pumps, and generators.
Coordinate equipment downtime for repairs and service with site operations management.
Operate and maintain the company heavy equipment service truck on job sites.
Manage and coordinate subcontracted work and equipment rentals.
Assist in improving the Preventative Maintenance program within the compost group.
Conduct repairs outdoors.
Travel to other compost yards to assist with repairs when needed.
Work independently with strong organizational skills.

Requirements

Possess a Heavy Equipment Technician License.
Ability to diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic issues.
Basic computer knowledge.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Flexibility with working hours, including potential weekend and holiday work.
Valid G Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract.
Supply and maintain a complete set of mechanic tools.
