About the Role

The Hospital Leader On Duty provides excellent veterinary care to full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners, representing the mission and values of Petco. This role sets the tone for technical and customer support partners, fostering team cohesion and motivation.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients, escort them into exam rooms, obtain weight and vital signs, and record in the electronic medical record.
• Collect thorough patient histories and document patient visits in EMRs.
• Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, and handle/dispense medications as directed.
• Maintain electronic medical records.
• Monitor and answer telephone lines, route calls, and schedule appointments.
• Provide client education and relay test results to doctors and clients.
• Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures.
• Assist with anesthetizing patients and monitor them during anesthesia and recovery.
• Prepare patients for hospital discharge or transfer.
• Perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including administering medications and fluid therapy.
• Keep patients clean, watered, and fed as directed.
• Safely walk canine patients for elimination.
• Train new staff members and disseminate knowledge.
• Maintain a neat and clean hospital environment.
• Order inventory and manage scheduling.
• Monitor wait times and make accommodations during peak times or emergencies.
• Uphold and enforce all policies of Petco and Vetco Total Care.
• Oversee hospital operations and supervise paraprofessional staff.
